 D01 ILS Programs
The Interlaboratory Study (ILS) Program was established by ASTM's Board of Directors to help ensure that every one of ASTM's test methods is validated by a Precision Statement that quantifies what a user of any given standards can expect to achieve in terms of repeatability (what one laboratory analyzing the same sample multiple times would likely see as its range of acceptable results) and reproducibilty (the difference that would be expected if the same sample were analyzed using the same standard in multiple laboratories). Ultimately, having precision statements supported by data driven studies will enable users, producers, and consumers to all have even greater confidence in the ASTM Test Methods that they reference.

Laboratories volunteer to participate in the ILS Program knowing that they will have a direct impact on the Test Method being tested, and the way that it is utilized by their counterparts around the world. Participating labs are acknowledged on the ILS webpage and in the resulting ASTM Research Report, and while the specific data reported is randomized, labs can use their findings to assess their own performance as compared to that of their peers.

ASTM's ILS Program provides overall administrative support to all registered studies.
